Thank you for your question.  Switching to the five-finger footwear should be a gradual process over a period of time.  We are not used to going barefoot and it takes a while for our bodies to adjust.  Hiking in some of the environments we encounter would take more consideration since five-finger footwear doesn&#039;t really protect the toes.  So right now I suggest staying with the hiking boots/shoes we recommend in our equipment lists.  I would start wearing the five-fingers around the house and neighborhood until you feel the muscles in your feet and legs start to strengthen and then start considering longer and more rugged areas.

I loved the book Born to Run and I think the philosophy is excellent.  Reserach does show that most of our foot and leg injuries come from the cusioned heels most new shoes have.

In any case, GOOD WALKING!

It was great to hear from you and YES they will last the whole winter and longer.  They&#039;re made from stainless steel and can withstand a lot of punishment.  I highly recommend that you try them.  I&#039;ve used them on almost every surface doing every active thing I could imagine and they WORK!
