About this trip

A paradise of their own within the Alps, the Dolomites rise out of the top of Italy’s “boot,” scintillating in the sun and casting shades of pink, grey, yellow, and icy blue across the razor-sharp peaks.  Their name originates from the rock Dolomia, discovered by the French geologist Dèodat de Dolomieu, who was the first to understand the rock’s unique mineral combination of magnesium and calcium.  Two hundred million years ago, this area was the bottom of an ocean; the towers and pinnacles that now soar over 10,000 feet, were formed over time as an ancient coral reef.  Today dark coniferous forests, lush alpine meadows, and crystal lakes create the setting for our amazing hikes and relaxing strolls.  Look for wild deer, chamois, and even a golden eagle here in the national parks of the Dolomite Range.

Picturesque villages, historic castles, and vestiges of the First World War are part of our trip, too, together with the superb wines and cuisine of the region.  The trails that wind through the glacially carved valleys lead to spectacular views of the surrounding summits, and our trip provides a complete introduction to the whole area’s majesty.   If serenity is what you seek, you’ll find it here in the Dolomites.

Note for Walkers

Our walking is along superbly varied and well-maintained footpaths. Walkers should have a good fitness level, be confident on uneven terrain, and not suffer from vertigo.
